About our scholarships:
The Dr. Gayle Painter Scholarship is in honor of Dr. Angie’s father. Dr. Painter would have been pleased to recognize a student for their outstanding achievements and academic excellence. Dr. Painter had a remarkable career as a theoretical physicist, yet he always enjoyed encouraging and mentoring students. He inspired his family, fellow colleagues and friends with his hard work, pursuit of excellence and creativity. He lived his life with deep respect and gratitude for our world and others.
The Justin Leon McClellan Scholarship is in honor of our long time employee Sheila McClellan and husband, Leon McClellan’s son. Justin is remembered for his creativity, enthusiasm and living a full life. He loved to skateboard, snowboard and he treasured his time with friends and especially family. Although he left us too soon, we know he would be honored to see the recipient of this award broaden their horizons by enjoying life, traveling and furthering their education.
The 2011 recipient of The Dr. Gayle Painter Scholarship is Mary Catherine Rubisch, a graduating senior from North Buncombe High.
The 2011 recipient of The Justin Leon MClellan Scholarship is Keely Turner, a graduating senior from Erwin High.
